“The Hole in the Hall” is back!

This is the first post letting everyone know that things are going great for Josh Hall Surfboards. 6 years ago, I moved out of Skips complex, took over a small glass shop, formed a new company with my partner Dave and we opened up Shoreline Glassing. Currently we glass my boards, Skip Frye Surfboards and a few other labels from time to time. We have been lucky to assemble one of the tightest, most experienced crews put together for building boards ever. In fact, we’ve calculated almost 150 years’ experience between everyone in the crew. We do small batch (10-12 per week) , high quality-built surfboards, resin tints, glass on fins and polished glosses. Traveling around the world and seeing so many other operations, I always come back home realizing that we are putting out some of the best boards ever. You can never go wrong with supporting your local board builder. Don’t forget cheaply built, actually is expensive.

The shop is located at 5311 Grant St, San Diego Ca 92110, Suite B. Last year I moved into the suite next door and finally built a master shaping room, small office for Dave and I and a showroom. I run a queue of 10-12 weeks most of the year, so the showroom allows customers to skip the wait and get boards under their feet. Not sure if any of you remember me when I owned a wine importing business, but I run my show room like that of a winery. It’s always more expensive when going direct to the cellar, but most likely you’ll find some models that aren’t at your local shop. You will spend more, but you will walk away with exactly what you want. If the showroom doesn’t have what you are looking for, we are happy to build you a custom. I always push clients to my dealers first but sometimes they don’t have what you are looking for, thus the showroom is a nice option to have in the industry nowadays.

I still travel a ton so I might not be there if you decide to come check us out. However, Dave is around most days of the week, so it is always best to set up an appointment between him or I for a visit. If you do just walk up, please don’t bother the crew in the glass shop. They are there for work, not to deal with my customers. So please, always reach out via text or an Instagram DM to let one of us know you are coming. We are not open like a normal store. It is still a work in progress, but slowly I have been getting my art and photos hung up and boards displayed. It’s nice to finally have my own “spot” again, and to be out of the fumes next door.
